Kanpur: Ceiling Collapse at Kannauj Railway Station Leaves Several Feared Trapped
A major accident struck Kannauj railway station on Saturday when the ceiling slab of an under-construction building suddenly collapsed creating panic and chaos at the site. The incident occurred during routine construction work leaving several workers and railway staff feared to be trapped under the massive debris.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crashing sound as the structure gave way sending clouds of dust into the air and creating an atmosphere of confusion and fear. Rescue operations were launched immediately by local authorities with teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and railway officials rushing to the scene
According to initial reports the collapse occurred in a newly planned section of the railway station which was undergoing renovations to improve passenger facilities. At the time of the incident multiple workers were engaged in construction activities and several railway staff members were also present nearby.
We heard a deafening sound and within seconds the structure collapsed. Many of my colleagues were working in that area. I managed to escape but I fear others are still trapped said a worker who narrowly survived the accident
Rescue teams are using heavy machinery to clear the rubble while medical teams are on standby to assist injured victims.
